Pack Light this Spring

SLIP ON SLIP OFF | Mamacita Dress | 2017 Spring Fashion Trends

Packing for your Spring break or perhaps a business trip? Follow these 10 Tips from seasoned traveler and fashionista, Michelle Heslop and learn how to pack light and still be uber trendy wherever you go.

Michelle says that it is important to first prepare yourself mentally before you start packing. Ask yourself this simple question: “How much can I carry all by myself without straining too many muscles and still keeping my cool?”

Also think about where you are going and how you are getting there. Consider your intended modes of transport and the accommodation waiting for you on the other side. Picture yourself with all your luggage; alone and with no assistance in sight. Yes, this is the step called “Reality”. Even though you may not be travelling alone, or ever have to carry your own bags, rule of thumb when travelling is that you must be able to carry your own luggage without difficulty and under all circumstances. With all of the above in mind, consider the following tips:

  1. Prior to packing your suitcase and hand luggage, prepare an area near your closet for neatly displaying all the items you want to take with you. This means everything. Clothes, accessories, jackets, jerseys, underwear, sleepwear, shoes, toiletries, chargers, first aid kit, make-up, travel documents, money, cards, visas, etc.
  2. Pre-plan daily outfits by creating a capsule wardrobe that you can easily mix and match from. Select multi-functional pieces that are suitable for any occasion. Consider the MICHION Spring Collection for this exact purpose. The collection embraces all the current fashion trends and the pieces are designed to be super versatile and perfectly suitable for any occasion.
  3. Before you start packing, evaluate everything you want to take with you and then put HALF of it BACK in your closet. Strip it down to the bare basics; or at least try. You will thank yourself later for the extra space in your luggage for packing your holiday purchases and also having less weight to carry around during your trip.
  4. Remember to keep everything of value with you, on your person or in your hand luggage. We’re talking your wallet, cash, cards, keys, camera, phone, computer, tablet, sunglasses, etc.
  5. Create a mini emergency closet for your hand luggage. A set of underwear, one garment and a small make-up and personal hygiene kit, just in case your luggage goes missing; you never know. It is a good idea to also create a little first aid kit with basic emergency medication.
  6. Try your best to only pack 3 pairs of shoes. Shoes are heavy and take up a lot of space. Consider a pair of comfortable walking shoes, a classic casual shoe and something smart for evenings out.
  7. Do not travel with your expensive jewelry. Tourists and travelers are targeted by thieves and pickpockets all over the globe and hotel safes are not always as safe as you would want them to be. Take a few pieces of costume jewelry that won’t break your heart or the bank if they are lost.
  8. Be weather wise. Look at the weather reports for your destination and the dates you will be there. It can get cold in summer and warm in winter, so be prepared.
  9. Consider the simple fact that most destinations have shops. By all means take your favorite toothpaste and eye cream with you, but why not be adventurous and try out your destinations’ local brands? You may discover a new favorite or at least have a good laugh at the products that did not make the cut.
  10. Pack an empty laundry bag and fill it with your worn and dirty items during your trip. This separates the clean and dirty clothes in your luggage which makes it simple to unpack when you get back home. Clean clothes goes back in your closet and the laundry bag goes straight to your washing basket. Easy peasy!

Happy and safe travels!
